Le Chat de Frankenstein

Off to Paris this week to team up with the nice folk at Kayenta studios, the co-producers of Frankenstein's Cat. Since we started actual preproduction at last a fortnight ago things feel like they have a real momentum, which is terrific. I'm particularly enjoying the feeling of freedom at getting stuck into designing the world of Nine & Co. In fact, it sends me back to those early designs I did on Bob The Builder (or Bob le Bricoleur as he is en Francais!) That's the point in animation where as a designer you really feel as close to God as you can get, outside of going to church, anyway...

If I had the time I'd be spending it producing large scale mood piece paintings depicting the "world" of the show, but I shall hopefully fit those in as time allows. I do intend to get some paintings done during production. Should provide a colourful production diary if nothing else, but should hopefully be a springboard to inspire the background artists.

Fly out on Wednesday morning but shall be checking in on blog while away.

Are you saying you don't believe in yourself?

Gay Parieeeeee eh? Very nice. May I recommend the book, 'A Year in the Merde,' for background reading. It will at least instruct you how to perfect the arrogant Parisian shrug of contempt.

Frogs leg ahoy! Have fun.

If and when they take you to that restaurant round the corner from the studio, don't let them recommend anything off the menu. Go with 'your' gut, rather than something elses' gut. I'm all for 'spare no part of the buffalo' but a line has to be drawn.

Thankyou to Fozzie Bear stylings of INJun there :-D

Craig, yep, the great man is no more. Just amazed that it wasn't a croc or a shark that got him in the end. Stingray was a most unusual beast to take him down...

Sheriff, I shall endeavour to try out some of my French while there, but chances are I'll flummox around like any good Brit with little if any grasp of the language.

INJun, sounds like an "offally" good restaurant to me...

I'll get me coat...

Mr Jobling, you really are an international man of cartooning!
Where will you pop up next I wonder?

Summerisle? East Procter?

Sorry, ‘off topic’ for today, I’ve gone back to 21st August’s discussion about Wales. Just returned from Aberaeron - IT DIDN’T RAIN - the children loved it - a resounding success. Happy children = very happy Mum!

So great that you're painting a lot of your concept work. I can barely pick up a pencil these days, let alone paint...

Sorry Curtis - off topic again. To celebrate what would’ve been my Grandpa Jobling’s 100th b’day today (7th Sept), my sister had a wee bairn yesterday evening! Like last year, Mrs Bling is following my sister a month later, so tell her that second baby boy only took 1.45 hours to emerge. They just made it to Edinburgh Hospital in time.
